Music for hotel lobbies
How to choose lobby music that welcomes guests, supports staff and suits the building, from arrivals in the morning to quiet late evenings, with Nova Business.

A hotel lobby is the first room every guest walks into and often the last one they remember. It is a reception desk, a waiting room, a meeting point and sometimes a lounge, all at once. Music there has to welcome people arriving tired from a journey, stay out of the way of a check-in conversation, and still feel like it belongs to your hotel rather than to anywhere.
What lobby music is for
Good lobby music does three things. It fills silence, so a quiet lobby does not feel empty or awkward. It masks small sounds, such as conversations at the desk, that guests would rather not overhear. And it sets expectations about the hotel itself: relaxed, polished, lively or calm.
It should not demand attention. If guests are aware of individual songs, or staff have to lean in to hear a guest at reception, the music is doing too much.
Choosing a sound that fits the building
Start with the hotel you actually have. A design hotel with concrete and glass can carry cooler, more modern sounds, such as gentle electronic music or ambient textures. A family-run hotel with wood and soft furnishings often suits acoustic guitar, piano and warm jazz. A resort lobby that opens onto a terrace can take something brighter.
A few qualities work in almost every lobby:
- Mostly instrumental: vocals compete with conversation at the desk. A few soft vocal tracks add warmth, but instrumental music should carry most of the list.
- Even dynamics: avoid tracks that start quietly and then swell. A sudden crescendo in an otherwise calm room is jarring.
- Moderate tempo: unhurried, but not so slow that the room feels sleepy during busy check-out hours.
On Nova, piano, jazz, strings and ambient music are good places to start listening.
Following the day
A lobby changes character more than most rooms. In the morning it is busy with breakfast, check-outs and taxis, and slightly brighter music helps. Mid-afternoon tends to be quieter, until arrivals start. Evenings bring guests heading out or returning, and a lobby bar may turn the space into a lounge. Late at night, a calmer, softer list suits the few guests passing through and the night staff.
Nova Business does not change lists automatically, so the practical approach is to prepare separate lists, for example "Morning", "Afternoon", "Evening" and "Night", and ask reception to switch them at handover. It takes seconds and keeps the room in step with the day.
Volume and placement
Volume is where lobby music most often goes wrong. Set it at a quiet time, then check it again when the lobby is busy, because a crowded room absorbs sound. Walk the space: music that sounds right at the desk may be too loud in a seating corner near a speaker. If guests sit and work in the lobby, keep it lower still.
Using Nova Business in a hotel
Nova Business includes business playlists curated by Nova for venues such as hotels. You can create and keep your own lists, for example a bright breakfast list and a soft late-night list, switch between them from the computer or tablet at reception, and check statistics on listening time per venue and the most played songs over the last 30 days.
It plays in a browser on any computer or tablet connected to your sound system. All devices at the same venue play the same music in sync, so one venue cannot play different music in different spaces. If you want different music playing in different spaces at the same moment, write to info@loopcode.co and we will explain what your setup needs.
The subscription costs $30 per venue per month, with unlimited listening and the public performance licence for Nova music included, because Loopcode Bilişim Yazılım Mühendislik Eğitim ve Danışmanlık A.Ş. (Lodos Nova) owns the whole catalogue. See the Nova Business page for hotels and our article on how music shapes customer experience.

Can I cancel if it does not suit us? Yes. Nova Business is monthly and you can cancel any time. You keep access until the end of the paid month.
